Attrice. Esordisce nel mondo dello spettacolo negli anni ‘70 con l’apparizione in alcuni spettacoli teatrali con Carmelo Bene e al cinema sotto la direzione dei fratelli Bertolucci in “Oggetti smarriti” (1979) di Giuseppe e “La tragedia di un uomo ridicolo” (1980, presentato al Festival di Cannes) di Bernardo. Dopo l’incontro con Nanni Moretti che la sceglie come interprete di “Sogni d’oro” (1981) e “Bianca” (1983) e con Gianni Amelio che la dirige in “Colpire al cuore” (1982) si mette in evidenza come una delle più promettenti attrici italiane e la sua carriera si divide tra impegni cinematografici e televisivi in Italia e all’estero, soprattutto in Francia. Recentemente ha ottenuto un grande successo con “La stanza del figlio” (2001) di e con lo stesso Moretti, che le è valso il David di Donatello e il Nastro d’Argento come miglior interprete femminile, e con “Un viaggio chiamato amore” (2002) di Michele Placido, presentato in concorso alla Mostra del Cinema di Venezia. Nel 2003 è protagonista, insieme all’attore spagnolo Javier Bardem, del film d’esordio alla regia di John Malkovich “Danza di sangue”. Esordisce come regista nel 2012 con la pellicola “Ciliegine” e realizza nel 2016 il film “Assolo”.

She begins her carrer at the end of 70s with the apparition in some plays by Carmeo Bene and in some movies: “Lost Objects” (1979) by Giuseppe Bertolucci and “The tragedy of a ridiculous man” (1980) by Bernardo Bertolucci, in- troduced to the Festival of Cannes. After the meeting with Nanni Moretti, that chooses her as actress of “Gold Dreams” (1981) and of “Bianca” 1983, and with Gianni Amelio, that direct her in “To strike to the hearth” (1982), she puts on in evidence as one of the most promising actresses and she works very much for seve- ral cinema and televisions movies, in Italy and in different foreign countries, especially in France. She gets a great success with “The son’s room” by and with Nanni Moretti, whit whom she has won the “David di Donatello” and the “Nastro d’Argento” as good fe- male interpreter, and with “A trip called love” (2002) by Michele Placido, in competion at the festival of Venice. In 2003 she is tha protagonist of the lm of debut by John Malkovich “Bloody Dance”, with Javier Bardem. Beside. She has debut as director in 2012 with “Little Cherries” and in 2016 she has shooted “Solo”.
