Sinossi / Synopsis
La celebrazione della vigilia di Santa Agata è una tradizione ben radicata nei Paesi Baschi in cui le persone, accompagnate da bersolaris (cantori in versi), vanno di casa in casa in un’atmosfera di festa, cantando al ritmo dei bastoni. La bersolari Maialen Lujanbio, con i suoi versi, fa una cruda denuncia della violenza di genere. Verso dopo verso, vengono denunciate le diverse espressioni della violenza maschile sulle donne, così come la nostra impossibilità di vincerla. Con il pretesto dei versi, venti giovani artisti dirigono un’opera di creazione collettiva, in cui utilizzano diverse tecniche di animazione.

St. Agatha’s Eve is a deep-rooted Basque tradition in which people walk from house to house, accompanied by improvised verse-makers (bertsolaris), singing verses to the beating of long sticks. Building on this celebration, bertsolari Maialen Lujanbio composes a stark denunciation of gender violence. In verse after verse, she condemns the different manifestations of sexist violence and our inability to combat it. Based on these couplets, twenty young artists direct a collective-created piece, using different animation techniques.

Il cortometraggio è un’opera di creazione collettiva e composta da venti giovani artisti baschi, con il coordinamento di Bego Vicario. Nel film, poiché le strofe e le transizioni tra queste sono state distribuite fra tutti gli artisti, si aggiungono opere con le tecniche più svariate. Ma, grazie alla musica e al ritmo, si raggiunge un’unità formale e narrativa molto suggestiva, che dà ai versi una nuova forza e profondità.

The short film is a collectively-created work directed by twenty young Basque artists, coordinated by Bego Vicario. The stanzas and the transitions between them were distributed among the different artists, with the result that the film combines works made with a great variety of techniques. Thanks to the music and the rhythm of the songs, however, they create a highly suggestive formal and narrative unity, which brings new force and depth to the verses.
