Sinossi / Synopsis
In Vrijheid racconta la storia di una madre che ritrova il suo figlio perduto. Per mesi Nezina ha vissuto nella paura, perché suo figlio Ismaël era partito per la Siria. Poi riceve un messaggio in cui le comunicano che Ismaël è tornato. E’ scappato dalla Siria ed è ora detenuto in Olanda. Sotto strette condizioni, il giudice gli concede di attendere il giudizio a casa di sua madre. Nezina è determinata a non farsi scappare il figlio una seconda volta Fa tutto ciò che può per fare nuovamente di Ismaël un membro produttivo della società. Ma più cerca di raggiungerlo, maggiore diventa la distanza tra madre e figlio.

In Vrijheid tells the story of a mother who gets her lost son back. For months Neziha has lived in fear, because her son Ismaël left for Syria. Then she receives a message saying that Ismaël is back. He fled Syria and is now detained in the Netherlands. Under strict conditions, the judge allows him to await his trial in his mother’s house. Neziha is determined not to let her son slip through her fingers a second time. She does everything within her power to make Ismaël a productive member of society again. But the more she tries to reach him, the greater the distance between mother and son becomes.

Biografia / Biography:
Floor Van Der Meulen si laurea nel 2012 presso la “Willem de Kooning Academy” di Rotterdam in Design Audiovisivo. Dirige diversi documentari e film sperimentali. Il suo ultimo documentario, “Storming Paradise” (2014) è un ritratto di due combattenti siriani e uno olandese in un conflitto complesso. Giovani uomini che trovano la loro strada nella vita. Ha co-diretto “9 days from my Window in Aleppo” (2016) con Thomas Vroege, candidato all’European Film Award. “In Vrijheid” è il suo primo film di narrazione. Il film è stato candidato per un Dutch Academy Award come Miglior Dramma Televisivo, Nazmiye Oral ha vinto il Dutch Academy Award come Migliore Attrice.

Floor Van Der Meulen graduated in 2012 from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam in Audivisual Design. She directed several documentaries and an experimental film. Her last documentary “Storming Paradise” (2014) is a portrait of one Dutch and two Syrian fighters in a complex conflict. Young men who are finding their way in life. The film was sold to Al Jazeera. She co-directed “9 days from my Window in Aleppo” (2016) with Thomas Vroege, which is nominated for the European Film Award. “In Vrijheid” is her debut fiction film. The film was nominated for a Dutch Academy Award for Best Television Drama. Leading actress Nazmiye Oral won the Dutch Academy Award for Best Actress.
